Intelligent Image Analysis, or IIA Check Point 3

Postby h.harb » Sun Mar 17, 2013 1:40 pm

Does the old outside ski lead the tipping at the high "C" of the new arc?

Both my knees are flexed at the same amount at the same time in the transition.

Notice here that Hirscher is in the air with both skis. even when not touching the snow; he tips his old outside ski (releasing ski) before his big toe edge ski.

It can be difficult to see if the old outside ski is leading the tipping. The muscles used to tip a ski to the BTE are much stronger than the muscles used to tip to the LTE. If the skis are at the same edge angle then the LTE tipping is leading. Sometimes you can get lucky and find a frame showing the LTE tipping clearly leading the BTE as shown in this image.

Also noticing the counter in all but particularly with respect to it being held in transitions in Numbers 2 and 3 and maybe that's to come as well later. Lovin' it.

Notice how when we demonstrate transitions, there is always a point where both knees have the same amount of flex?

It's a bit grainy but it does appear that the stance ski has a lot more "tip" than the free ski so I'm guessing a push-off preceded this photo.

Yes, so there is no way to adjust or increase angles, unless you lean or park. And there will be far too much pressure needed in this set up in the high C to stay upright.

Is the optimal timing to relax the old stance leg so that both knees become equally flexed right at the moment that both skis become flat?

I am developing a new learning and teaching technology based on "Intelligent Image Analysis" as shown in the check points described on the Forum. No on has ever done this in a systematic way in skiing before. You will be able to use your video or images and compare them to the Check points. We will provide the movements and images that you can compare yourself to the best skiers in the world.

This technology will be combined with an instant replay, on the slope video system, and a 2nd monitor that demonstrates the correct images to strive for. In the process there will be a description of the correct movement for the athlete to work on and appropriate exercises. This coaching will include data collecting and evaluation of the athlete's skiing so it can be compared to conventional coaching. All aspects of learning will be monitored and data collected, determining the rate of skill acquisition. Questionnaires on cards will be completed by the athletes on the hill during training. This whole system will be tested, streamlined and refined to than allow use in the future by any ski club, race program or ski school.

Of course PMTS will be the movement based skiing system the program will develop use. The reason for this is PMTS makes it possible in the first place because it is the only tangible, measurable skiing system that has movement standards that can be measured empirically.

I'm developing it now with an exercise scientist and a communications professor, we intend to present our findings at the International Congress. I'll be using it this summer.
