Stem cell therapy anyone try ?

Stem cell therapy anyone try ?

To heal joint injuries using stem cells instead of operations is it a better way to go ?

Anyone with any experience with being treated with stem cells or know of someone that has been treated what are your thoughts on stem cells ?

No personal experience but I did some search in PubMed a couple of years ago when my knees started to squeak and ake. Some random info:

Cell-based therapy
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28825779
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5347439/

Exercise therapy or placebo equal or better than surgery?
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4957588/
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29420232

"..meniscal tear observed [with radiology/MRI] in 35% of persons older than 50 years of age; two thirds of these tears are asymptomatic."

Knee surgery probably results in osteoarthritis in a couple of years. Source?

Radiology/MRI is not the exact diagnostic tool you think it is.

David,
You answered your own question. Every time you think you need a Chiropractor help just go to Physical Therapist. Physical Therapists are real doctors.

Not that I have an opinion on any of this but Physical Therapists are not doctors at all of any kind. Many are great at what they do but they aren't doctors.

John,

Thanks for correcting me on this. After some reading I see that Chiropractors at least have a Doctor of Chiropractor degree and Physical Therapists have Doctor of Physical Therapy degree both certified by their corresponding accreditation boards. Both degrees require at least 7 years of specialized education and it looks like the Physical Therapist require a college degree in medical oriented field. So yes, they both are not MDs.

I do have opinion on this because unfortunately I had experience dealing with both type of specialists (Chiropractor after a bad car accident and Physical Therapist after a bad lower back injury -- I still keep my handicap driver stickers as a memorabilia :) ).

I have tried stem cells many times over the last few years. There are many different kinds of cells and procedures to inject them. It is important to find a doctor with a great deal of experience, who is not using them to increase his pay. At very least they are potent anti inflammatories. I used them on my back, neck, ankles and feet. I found them helpful, not not a panacea. They are low risk compared to surgery which often fails. I used Dr Adelson in Park City, UT and Dr Edward Magaziner in North Brunswick, NJ. The major drawback is their cost since they are not covered by insurance.

I have done 4 different PRP injections (platelet rich plasma taken for your own blood) in my left knee which became problematic about 3 years ago. It has made a huge difference to the point now that I rarely have pain or issues through the entire ski season. There are still certain movements or exercises that I cant do (like lunges) but these are limited and I am mostly functional. Stem cell is the next level up in therapy for problem joints but as I understand it Stem Cell injections at times will cause irritation and inflammation. My doctor says to always start with PRP first . PRP is also less expensive than stem cell treatments but also not covered by insurance. But for the cost of a season pass ($700-800) you may get relief for a whole season.
