Thank you, SCSA

SCSA (and Harald and all of you):

A while back you posted what I interpreted as a "humorous post" about what is a Real Skier. I posted a humorous reply, but I have a more serious one as well. A "real skier" is someone who loves the sport (or activity, I don't know) with an almost religious passion. It's someone who wants everyone to ski better, someone who is willing almost to proselytize technique to help others get better. If you can make a living at it as well like HH, then so much the better. But I doubt that is the main motivation of you or HH.

Unfortunately, people are seldom going to receive a message that "there is a better way than what you know" very well. But truth has a way of eventually taking root. You may never know where it takes root (unless you get a post like ??John Mason??). But I don't think a Real Skier is in it for the reward or the acceptance of others. The knowledge that you are spreading truth, helping all of us who used to be Terminal Intermediates, and learning to ski better yourself should be enough. Remember that the greatest grass roots conversion in history was Christianity, and all of the apostles were killed (sorry, been to see the Passion).

However, to a large degree you seem to me to be the "heart and soul" of this forum. Understand that the people that react vigorously to the posts aren't the only ones reading. them There is information that is getting distributed and there are probably ears that are truly hearing that you will never know about.

Having said all of that, ease up a little bit. It isn't about proving whether PMTS is better by whether you ski better than someone else. It's only about providing your honest opinion. The results of offering that opinion are beyond your control.

One of the hard lessons I encountered in Graduate School was a new concept (back in those days) called "egoless programming." Although simple, it's difficult. The thrust is to separate "what you do" from "who you are". If in a program review someone criticizes your code, don't mistake that as a criticism of you. And a JimR corollary => if all they can find to criticize is you then the code must be pretty good.

In summary, I wanted to celebrate my one year anniversary in Peter's group by saying thank you for all you have contributed to the forum and to my understanding over the past year.

PS. I've always wondered about SCSA, but I actually saw it on a resume this week. Sun Certified System Administrator??

JimR,

I'm goin to Anger Management class. You watch, I'm gonna get along just fine, with everybody! 8)

Because....
That's right...
you guessed it...

"I'm going to be nicer than 97% of the people on the planet!"

Many thanks for the kind words and yes, I do (seriously) recognize and respect your opinion -- and HH's, and about a zillion others -- that I need to...be cool! 8)

Make turnz is cool. 8) It's not about being a butthead or being the best. It's about a skier and the snow, that's it. :!:

This forum should be what it was setup for. A place where (dare I say...motivated skiers?) can have lively discussion about making turnz and thangs (for Rusty). It shouldn't be about peeing and moaning or any other crapola.

I'll be respectful of others opinions and follow the rules I just talked about, you can take that to the bank.

I mean, after all, I'm a student of turnz. I'd love to learn something from someone other than HH, but so far, it just hasn't happened! But I tell you what. Here's to that happening! :)

Besides. I really want to make turnz with y'all! Barnes, Rusty, Juan Pierre, all of you! :)

Cheers!

JimR,

I forgot to answer your question.
SCSA = Signal Computing System Architecture

I'm a computer telephony dude, been writing C code for Dialogic boards since 1991.

From my old friend Edwin Margulies "Magoo", who wrote the first book on SCSA in 1993:

"You could say SCSA is the Standard of Standards. If you want a formal description of SCSA, you could call it:
"A set of standard interfaces, conventions, and protocols that enhance multi-technology call processing systems design and performance."

Dialogic is the company (now Intel) that made boards that would turn PC's into "telephony information stores". It started in the mid 80's. You could drop a Dialogic board into a PC, then add some C code. Callers could then press buttons on their telephone keypad and either listen to messages (976 joke lines), retrieve information from a database (banking by phone), or be connected live to someone (sex lines).

Remember 976 or 900 lines? Those calls were all handled by Dialogic boards. Most don't know this. But sex lines and psychic lines were the proving ground for the Internet. Once the Internet "started", sex, drove all the innovation. It still does.

1) Flash made it so porn pics would load faster.
2) Streaming media (Progressive Networks, now Real Networks) was invented to people could watch porn from their PC's

Now you startin to figure me out?

I'm glad to see you haven't changed, but I fear for the anger management class, try not to convert them :D
