October 2018 Turoa MA request

Postby Brendon » Sat Feb 09, 2019 12:28 am

Hi

I have been a PMTS devotee for 10 years plus so feel that I know many of you
I have never skied with a PMTS person, no footbed, no alignment, no camps, but always tried to follow advice offered here [reinforcing the superb books and videos]
finally this video ... one look at myself and I calmed hands down, felt the need to take the two bulky knee braces off, and changed to long 30 meter radius ski for the rest of the season
I started our season very weak, able to do only one run per day so was happy with the season long progress
I struggled all season with pull back [as you will see] so stayed away from aggressive skis [until this video]
this run is icy and it felt forced / contrived

working on strength/fitness/flexibility for our late June season start

thanks
Brendon

Hi Brendon,

I'm not an expert but the first thing I see is that you're always in the back seat. :D

If you want to truly improve with PMTS movements lose these skis. 30m skis require immense tipping at a skill level that only a select few have. Get on a 12-14M TR ski.

The boot setup looks rather upright.

~ comments/feedback

- - backseat. ... yes , hanging in there, had no strength in 2018, bulky braces hindering, steep and very hard

- - 30 meter conundrum, ... jb has provided me with fantastic information via this forum over the years,...but.... is my displayed technique acceptable here??

- - upright boot setup, O K , most of my skiing is on longer skis, I find I can relax forward onto the front of a longer ski. For this MA , I am skiing on the recommended radius and for Noah to shoot this as requested was great

I have my days

Me,.... started out in 1956, ... had both kneecaps surgically removed in 1974, ... found ACBAES 1 in the library around 2007, read it, believed it, thought I memorised it and went about practicing it or my sometimes off tangent interpretation of it. Hopefully will get footbeds, aligned and attend training but for now I am enjoying our small isolated southwest pacific island with more than a couple of serious, skiable volcanos.
My interpretation of PMTS has worked for me, with about 300 days putting skis on and many, many extra hours imagining, ...researching.
I followed HH's boot advice, I followed HH's ski and skiing advice and once I felt competent, I demoed new skis. I found some that responded to 'my'? PMTS.

PMTS has enabled me to enjoy my current obsession, collecting and skiing amazing-for-me skis.

Once you get your strength consider working on CA, CB, fore/aft, and tipping exercises. In the video watch how the skis move quickly through the high C. Ideally they would be more edged and doing more work before they move through the apex into the bottom of the arc.
