Point taken Max_501, but can we say for certain that I'm juicing the tails here? HA mentioned the ski breaking at times, is this a definite indicator of rotary movements?

So I've been hammering out dry land exercises like no tomorrow, trying to learn how to move my hips. Feels like there is some progress here; I'm getting a much tighter, smoother TFR with better balance. It finally feels like I can lock in some semblance of hip CA (and yes it feels totally different from what I thought hip CA was). I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

How much Angry Mother work have you done? Can you get more HIP CA (than what is present in this video) when you do them on groomed terrain?

You either have virtually no ROM in your hips for CA or you don't really understand what it is.

I've done a few days of angry mother drills (probably incorrectly), but I prefer tuck turns (which I do every day) because I hate leaving my poles. The terrain here was pretty close to groomed...hard and grippy with light snow on the surface. I don't think having corduroy would have made much difference.

Ok, this is what it looks like when I try to max it out in front of the mirror, and this is what I was trying to emulate on the snow. For what its worth, that baggy coat might not be ideal for looking at CA.

Do you run or did you run a lot? Running is the death to hip flexibility. I ran huge mileage for years but luckily cleaned up my hip flexibility around the time I started skiing. It takes work, it hurts some and it takes at least 3 months but it can be done.

BTW, while that's not great hip flexibility its still way more than you are getting in the TFR video.

Ok, thanks for the help...I'll work on showing similar hip CA in my skiing.

edit: I haven't ran for 4 years but I used to run 5-10k's few times a week for close to 6 years.

Not to completely derail noob's thread, but what do you suggest for hip flexibility. Mine is not the greatest. I can get more than he does, but not by a huge amount. And yes, I run a fair amount too. :)

How much of that is movement related vs lack of flexibility?

Take a look at page 95 of ACBAES 2. If you do the same can you get close to the range of movement Diana shows?

Seems like I can get close. This is as far as I can go with the wall sit

This might be a dumb question, but how much do you focus on sticking the side of your hip "up & out" ?

I don't stick my hip up and out. Instead I rotate the pelvis around the head of the femur in the opposite direction of the turn.

Alright, so I took these stills from a clip I had taken today (I can share the video if anyone wants to see). It looks like I'm getting some hip CA in the second frame, but becomes a lot less apparent by the time the skis come around all the way. Is there hip CA here?
