Keys to Drill Mastery - Great MS video

If you haven't seen this it's worth a view (or two). MS gets it; which shouldn't be a surprise given her results.

How cool is that, Heluvaskier making a guest appearance and demoing some of the drills in that video.

Heluvakier is wearing the red jacket and black pants performing 2 of the drills.

Heluva helped coach the Greek Peak Ski Team (Central New York) about 10 (or so) years ago while his girlfriend was a student at Cornell. I took a series of 6 lessons from him at that time. He is aptly named "Heluva Skier". Learned a lot from him. Before our first lesson, he followed me down one of the easier trails at the Peak. I felt like I had one of my best runs ever (and told him so). He just looked at me and said: "Hmmmmmm-more of everything(CA/CB/Tipping/Retraction, etc.). Pricked my balloon good. But, of course he was right. :

You know I was wondering about that. But then I said to myself "no, it couldn't be, could it?" Guess my first inclination was actually correct.

Well at least someone is being precise about the movements. What Mik is saying is so true about USSA coaching, they don't know. Burke doesn't use USSA skills quest.

...Not the first time I've found people stealing my videos and posting as their own...

But why is she extending out of her turns?

Interesting observation. I was focused on what she was saying in the narration and not so much on what she was actually doing in the drills shown. The "interesting" part is that the video starts with running gates that shows off fantastic skiing, but then the skiing in the drills doesn't represent the skiing from the slalom run through the gates. As you noted, lots of extension in those releases during the drills.

I think I'll just stick to the narration. ;)

Heluva's brief appearance seem to be the only pieces that show PMTS movements, and hence worth taking much from. His skiing style is so distinctive I think I could recognise him from far off - "gorilla shoulders, superb technique, power and precision" :)

The fact that what they demonstrate as good skiing in the gates and then how Greg is skiing in the clip, shows they don't get all the pieces. The exercises are disconnected and disjointed in the presentation. If you watch the early video at Burke ( a few years ago) with Mik talking about training and drills, the demonstrates are terrible and they don't correlate to how skiing is done in the gates.
