MA madnorbi

Dear All,

Last year I was browsing youtube for skiing videos to find bits and pieces to learn.
Seen quite a few videos and suddenly found a performance with elegance and
fluidity superior to all the others. I knew nothing about the skier, about his past,
about his knowledge. Only this pure experience of his performance, uninfluenced
by any prejudice or fallacy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argument_from_authority)
gravitated me to explore more and more about what I've seen.
I wanted to share my current understanding and execution of what I've managed to
absorb from the different sources that disseminate this great piece of
methodology: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R50gdzOWL1k
Any feedback is welcome.

Cheers,
Norbi.

Norbi, welcome to the forum. The main thing to focus on eliminating are the wedge/stem entries in your turns. The aren't present on every turn but on many/most. You are lifting and tipping on most turns but you are often engaging the the big toe edge of the old free ski before you have begun your tipping with the new free foot. Do you have PMTS books and videos? If so start doing super phantom drills where you maintain balance on the little toe edge while you lift and tip the new free ski. This will eliminate the stem. Practice this first on easy terrain. Then take it to more difficult terrain.

Noticed that the left turns are more "compromised" with wedge entries.
I think I am somewhat sitting in the backseat a bit, not pulling back
enough the leg at entries.
I have Expert 2 ebook and wanted to buy the Essentials DVD collection,
but had payment difficulties from Europe.
Is/will be the Essentials 1-2-3 available for purchase in electronic format?

Pulling back will help (in that it puts you in a better position) but if you are late with your tipping and you are grabbing that big toe edge first you are still going to have a stem (no matter how perfect your fore aft balance is).

I don't know about the ebooks availability. Check the HSS site and perhaps someone else will chime in with some information.

I've been playing around implementing the exercises found in the book
and the essentials to eliminate the wedge entries.
Here is a recent video of the progress:

I see unwanted leg extension in the movement.

mnorbi,

In case you missed them, check out the well stated perspectives on starting over from the beginning that were just posted a couple of days ago by members for another skier.

Thanks for the pointer, appreciate it, great posts.
I already built the slantboard for dry land training :)
Skiing together with other PMTSers would be great.
I was wondering if there are meetups in Europe as well.
Found this link for meetup organization: http://www.pmts.org/pmtsforum/viewforum.php?f=3
