Snow! Almost

Postby jbotti » Thu Oct 01, 2015 5:01 pm

Just got this email from Loveland. Looks like snowmaking this weekend. Sweet!!

"Temperatures in the high country are expected to dip this weekend and our snowmakers are poised and ready! The snow guns have been positioned, lines have been tested, and the last piece of the puzzle, Mother Nature, should be giving us what we need. Forecasts are calling for a chance of flurries throughout the weekend, but most importantly the nighttime temperatures should reach a low that will enable us to start blowing snow."

That is Totally Awesome! Can't wait for the snow to start flying here on the east coast. Vermont might be able to start snow making this weekend. Cold front is moving in. Praying for snow!

I got this email form Loveland today:

"Snowmaking Has Begun!
After weeks of watching the weather and patiently waiting, our snowmakers were finally able to turn on the snow guns last night for the first time this season! Temperatures dipped just low enough on Thursday night to fire up the guns and lay down the first flakes of the season. Although the day time temps are still realatively high, it is expected to cool off enough during the nights to keep making progress. Not only has the snowmaking started, but the extended forecast is calling for a much bigger cool off and quite possibly some natural snow early next week.

An opening day has not been set, but it usually takes a couple weeks to make enough snow to open, so ski season isn't far off. Here at Loveland we pride ourselves on the quality of our opening day snow. We set the bar by requiring an 18 inch base with top-to-bottom, tree-to-tree coverage. "

Shouldn't be too long now!!

A-Basin is off to a later start with the ski season. The Basin has not yet begun blowing snow. Loveland-Keystone and Copper have begun. We started skiing A-Basin Oct17th last year and it looks like maybe the first week of November this year. Hopefully the full season will catch-up.

From the Loveland Website this morning:

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23

7″ of new snow fell last night on Loveland giving us 14″ in 24 hours. The snowcats are up packing down the upper part of the mountain. Conditions are looking great on Catwalk and Mambo. We still have a good amount of snow to make on Homerun. Our snowmakers are working around the clock right now making snow. The forecast is looking good for some more productive nights of snowmaking. Have a great weekend!

Loveland will open on Thursday:

LOVELAND SKI AREA WILL OPEN FOR THE 2015-2016 SEASON ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29.

"The warm fall weather delayed the start of snowmaking this year, but Mother Nature finally came through," said Rob Goodell, director of business operations. "A winter storm delivered 17.5 inches of natural snow last week and brought the cold temperatures our snowmakers had been waiting for. They have done an incredible job getting the mountain ready for the first skiers and riders of the season."
