Is there good skiing near Beijing?

Thank you for asking. Skiing is getting popular here for the past few years. There are a few places for skiiing near Beijing, but don't expect anything close to what you find in Canada or Colorato. We don't have much snow here. Winter here has always been cold and dry, but it is getting warmer these years, and dry.

Wanlong and Dolomiti, two ski resorts I will go next week, are about 4 hours drive from Beijing. The altitude of Chongli, where the two resorts are located, is 1000 meter higher than Beijing, so it is really cold there. Lack of natrual snow, they used snow cannons to make snow anyway. I hope there will be more than two trails open in each of them next week. These two are about the best I can get.

Quite a few smaller skiing resorts will be open by end of December. These are within 1 hour drive from Beijing. However, I would avoid these in weedends, they will be too crawded.

openning of a new ski resort in China delayed again

Postby deyi » Thu Nov 13, 2008 7:59 pm

Pingtian resort (http://www.pingtianresorts.com/) has delayed its opening last year. Sadly, it decided to delay further.

"Despite our best efforts, it doesn't look like we're going to make it this winter. Of course you know that this year has been a topsy-turvy time for China. The earthquakes in Sichuan, freak snow/rain storms in the south and the Olympics in particular, brought most everything to a standstill. And now world finance is in meltdown mode. It's taking more time than we anticipated to get everything right and we don't want to open until we're satisfied with our ability to achieve the levels of quality we've set for ourselves. It's frustrating, but reality. I hope to have some better news soon.
Thank you for your interest. We'd love to have you visit, but as yet, are not ready. To keep you updated on the development, I will add your name to the list of many people who have also inquired.
Thanks again."
