Mammoth video clinic planning

Postby milesb » Wed Nov 03, 2010 8:20 am

For those of you who missed this thread- viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2573 - a few of us spent a few days at mammoth practicing pmts stuff and taking and analyzing video with help from Max501 and other forum members. We all came away with some improvement and further understanding of pmts. So let's do it some more! Throw up some possible dates, with a few weeks notice, I can usually go anytime.

I'm thinking of hitting Mammoth for a couple of days, the first week of January, mid-week, probably followed by some time in the Tahoe area, then Oregon--all while driving up to Seattle.

Still lots of college kids on vacation in early January, but definitely not holiday or weekend crowds.

Don't know if any of that matches with what you had in mind...

For Mammoth, let's say drive up on 1/3 then ski 1/4-5? Slip that by a day?

Still a external constraints that haven't been pinned down yet.

I'm also looking for a nice place to stay where my non-skiing, and saintly, wife will have things she can walk to. Is there a plaza that has housing and mountain access? I've stayed at Mammoth Mountain Inn years ago but that is too isolated.

Happy to chat by phone if it's only a 2 party discussion...

It's a planning thread, so keep it here. Those dates can work for me. Anyone else?

Not sure if I would be up to snuff to participate. I'm new, haven't read the books yet. Just been reading on this forum and watching the videos. Currently overseas, so once I'm home I will have book 1. If you guys wouldn't mind having a complete newb tagging a long, I'm in!!

Do you guys typically plan these events for during the week, or weekends? What are most peoples schedule? I work during the week, but every other weekend is a 3 day weekend for me.

I think I can make it Jan 1-5, but it's a bit early to tell for sure. I'll pencil it in.

Rich,

None of Mammoth's base lodges are within walking access to civilization (unless she like loooong walks). The free shuttle buses make everything easily accessible, if not exactly convenient.

For both pedestrian access to civilization and convenient lift availability, try something in/around the Village. It's full of restaurants, shops, etc and has a gondola that runs up to Canyon Lodge.

uavmx, we'd love to have you join in.

We've done both weekends and weekdays. It's sort of fluid. When somebody has a time they want to go they put the word out. Whoever can make it joins up and others catch the next time.

glad to hear it.

Don't think I can do those early Jan dates as I'm leaving for south lake on the 6th!
