BREAKING: Ford Breaks Through With Win in Beaver Creek Giant Slalom
American Tommy Ford won his career first Wold Cup on Sunday in front of a home crowd in Beaver Creek, Colorado, taking the giant slalom by a whopping 0.80 seconds. Snow and fog proved to be a challenge for the entirety of the race but the Oregon native managed to adapt and charge his way to victory.

Ford finished nearly a full second ahead of a pair of Norwegians with Henrik Kristoffersen and Leif Kristian Nestvold-Haugen in second and third place, 0.80 and 1.23 seconds back, respectively.

Ford was followed by Ted Ligety in 11th and Ryan Cochran-Siegle in 23rd to round out the American finishers.

Trevor Philp led the Canadians in a strong seventh place.

Tommy has strong skills and technique. He has lacked strength and conditioning in years past and would often fade in the last 5-10 gates in races. He had some very strong races last year and followed that up by finishing fourth at Soelden this year and of course just got his first win at BC. Pinterault skied horribly and fog and visibility was/were a huge factor throughout much of the race. Still, a WC win is huge and Tommy does have have podium speed. He will be fun to watch this season.

Here is a clip from BC:

Tommy made a huge step forward when he switched to the newer R2 Head 150 or 170 flex race boot. He was able to immediately get his feet closer and not get those horrible catch release catch grabs, he used to have. I talked with him about the leg separation and he told he he was working on it but could find the balance with the old boots.
