Winning the SG!

So good to see this marvelous skier, one of Harald's favorite PMTS examples, returning from injuries to winning form.

Race isn't over yet, Ester Ledecka, the snowboarder from Czech Republic is in first place currently

Astonishing win for Ledecka. The NBC coverage and even the racers on the podium seemed to believe the race was effectively over, but as Yogi Berra said...

Ledecka skied a shorter but more technical line that Bode had mentioned but that few if any of the expected contenders tried. It paid off.

Still great to see Anna back in (near) winning form.

The Vonn of 5 years ago would have won this race by 1.5 seconds. The woman’s field in SG is weak and injured. Anna skied well but she is still not the skier she was and neither is Gut. Weirather has crashed a ton and only skis well in sunlight. And Vonn is obviously not close to the racer that she was and can’t load the ski after the injuries. That’s good news for someone and yesterday that was Ledecka.

Totally agree with John, the women's field is really week. If Lindsey can almost win with a huge error, Anna, 2nd by .001 she isn't skiing close to what she could do before her injury, and a women coming out of 26th place, who is relatively new to the world cup can win, it sure is a weak field. The same goes for slalom and GS. The Italians are fierce competitors and they go for it, but technically they are all over the place, no consistency due to really poor fundamentals, that's just poor coaching and development, but they have huge talent.

BTW. I don't think Anna is back yet she skis well enough in a weak field on good snow on a less risky slope, but she's not in the mix the way she dominated before.

OK, Veith's not completely "back"... else she'd have beaten a low ranked snowboarder/skier handily.

Also agree that Vonn could have won easily but for that one slip near the bottom.

But even in her weakened state, is Veith not a better model for PMTS students (like me) than Vonn is or ever was?

Anna is the best technical and beautiful skier I've ever seen, better than Hirscher. She has more touch and when she is right, she never makes a mistake.
