Shiffrin not all the way there in GS yet.

Not knowing how to teach fundamentals in skiing is excusable, but not investigating what is an obvious technique and not addressing it, the way USSA coaching operates is inexcusable. If you investigate USSA's "Skills Quest" and pyramid of needs, there is nothing in their system that teaches what Anna Fenninger and other top world cup racers are doing.

In this Shiffrin video clip, it's hard to see because of the weird editing, but it's totally different skiing than last season. Dropping the hand, rotating, right and left turns are different.

Take note of the difference in shoulder turn and hip counter acting. This is the difference between 6th and 7th position in the world cup women's GS and the best.

    Harald,

Is Anna also demonstrating "pre-flex", or "flexing without releasing" from 0.2-0.26 sec? I believe I can see the effect of her stance ski tracking closer to her free ski up until the release at 0.26 sec.

Anna's inside hip is higher, on the inside of the arc, this is a strong indication of why she develops more power, even with her relatively small size and weight than the rest of her compeition. There is very little one can point out that isn't perfect on this women.

Here is a Shiffrin video from last season, this skiing is different than the one of this summer's training. Here she has more shoulder turn, but rotates and squares up near the end of the arcs, Anna doesn't rotate. Also Shiffrin extends to move forward, Anna has no extension what so ever.Image
