Marcel Hirscher got into a wider stance, lost his out side ski, lost that usual inside foot discipline, in this second run , cost him the victory. He hooked his inside boot on the turning pole (boot top shin) while his outside ski was skidding. This almost spun him right out of the course near the bottom flat section. Pinaurault had a brilliant second run, his early weight transfers and high C carving made it look almost easy.
The dangers of a wide stance and upper body leaning were really evident in this race.
