Arapahoe Basin Blue/Dk Blue #1 Camp Info

Hello Harb Ski Campers!

We hope that you are enjoying your summer, and starting to think about the upcoming winter and ski season. If you are planning your lodging during the Arapahoe Basin Blue/Dk Blue Camp (session 1), here is some information.

You may lodge anywhere you like during the camp. There is no lodging at Arapahoe Basin itself. The closest lodging options are at Keystone, about 10 minutes away. Most campers stay in Summit county - Keystone, Silverthorne, and Dillon. Those locations are all within a 20-minute drive of the ski area. It's easiest to get around if you have your own car.

No Car? Ride Share
If you will not have a car during camp, then we recommend that you stay at Keystone. You can shuttle there from the airport, there are several dining options within walking distance, and there is bus service from Keystone to Arapahoe Basin. The only concern with this method is that in snowy weather, the bus service may be canceled. If you are planning to be without a car, please post on the forum that you need to share a ride. Hopefully there's another camper with a car who will share with you.

Alignment Pre-days
If you are arriving early for camp and wish to have your indoor alignment session done prior to camp, we do have openings at our shop on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 27 & 28, and at the alignment condo on Sunday, Nov. 28, from 5-7 PM. [The shop is directly on your way from the airport to Keystone, but you'll need to have a car to come there.] Please call or e-mail us by early November if you wish to schedule a pre-day appointment.

Alignment Condo
We have booked a condo at Keystone that will be the “alignment center” during camp. That's where we'll have our afternoon footbed/equipment/alignment measurement sessions. We are in the Mountain House area, Ironwood Townhomes. It's on the bus line to/from A-Basin (Summit Stage, River Run stop), and within Keystone (Keystone Ride, for Keystone lodging guests).

Lift Tickets - Important!
Please remember when you book your lodging that we and Arapahoe Basin expect you to get group rate lift tickets through us for the camp (unless you have a season pass). Please do not purchase lift tickets with your lodging. Group ticket rates for '10-'11 are approximately $40/day.

Keystone Resort Lodging
Keystone Resort has many lodging options, from hotel to condo to cabin to B&B, all accessible on their web site. You can book lodging at Keystone online or by phone

Phone: 1-877-753-9786

Other Lodging
Other lodging options can be found on Arapahoe Basin's website:

Click on “The Mountain” on the main menu, then click on “Lodging”

Let us know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Diana Rogers

CAR SHARE: I'll be traveling up from Lakewood every day during the camp. If any locals are signed up, I'm open to carpooling. Ken

Hi Diana,
I'm looking forward to this camp, my second with the PMTS. It really helped me the first time and I'm thinking it will do so again. My question has to do with the group lift tickets. Do we purchase them after arriving or before? I would like to ski Sunday before camp starts and Saturday after camp. So, can that be included in the group rate, or do I just purchase those days seperately?
I'm also interested in the idea of renting skis from Harald's shop for the week. That way I can have equipment best designed for the style of skiing. I got boots there last year (actually earlier this year). My wife and I can stop by the shop on Saturday, November 27th on our way to A. Basin if that would work. The shop has all my specifications from an alignment done in January of this year. Can you give me an idea of the cost of that and would the cost apply to a purchase?
Thanks, Mike Doran

Sorry, the group rate tickets are only offered to us by A-Basin during the camp. We will give out the group lift tickets the mornings of the camp.

Hi, this will be the first time I join a PMTS camp and also first time to ski in Colorado. I'm an asian male, 6 ft tall and 165 lbs. An engineer from the San Francisco Bay area. I have been skiing at the lake tahoe area for the past 10 years, and mostly on groomed blue runs, or on black runs struggling to get down because my (lack of) techniques did not allow connected turns on the steeps.
Lately I have been watching the "Skiing Essentials" 3-DVD set that showed a path for improvement. While following the DVD and doing the edge change exercise in the backyard with boots/skis on, it was apparent that the exercise that looks easy on TV, needed some practice to keep the skis pointing to the original direction after the hopping and changing of the edge. It took 30 minutes to get most hops done good enough. I started with a long sleave on, and finished wearing only T-shirt. I found another exercise on putting the skis on the downhill edge amazing as I never tought that it was necessary to do so. Maybe the way to overcome the fear of falling off of balance is actually to fall a few times while skiing at slower speed :-) ? Not to metion the tipping or flexing. Can't wait to get on the slope and practice more. I will be arriving in Denver on Saturday 11/27 and will leave Denver late Friday afternoon (12/3).

Hi Liming,
Hopefully we'll keep the falling to a minimum and you'll find that your dryland practice pays off.
See you soon.

Hi Diana,

It was a great week at A-basin. Thanks a lot for the wonderful coaching and for being so organized. This is the picture we took during the 5-minute break on the 2nd day.

I'm counting the days until I can go back to skiing again.
Have a great holiday season!
