Daily Schedule & Final Details - Super Blue #2

Postby Diana Rogers » Sun Dec 16, 2012 3:41 pm

Hello campers,

Here are the Super Blue #2 Camp daily schedule and final details…

Happy Feet:
If you are travelling a long distance to camp (driving, flying, or both) we highly recommend that you wear compression socks for the journey and for you first day or two at camp. Travelling often leads to swelling of the feet, creating a lot of discomfort for the first few days in your ski boots. Wearing compression socks is even more important if you are planning to buy boots or have boot fitting done prior to camp. You can wear compression hose or special compression ski socks. If you can’t find them near you, you can order them from us on our web store...

Lift tickets:
We are planning that most campers will be getting the group rate tickets through us, at $55/day. If you have a season pass at A-Basin and won't need group lift tickets, please remind us. (If you have told us before, please tell us again – repetition helps!)
If you are 70 or older, you can get an A-Basin senior season pass for $75! Bring a photo ID with you to the Season Pass office. Please let us know if you will be purchasing one of these passes.

Payment:
We run a bill for each camper for group lift tickets and incidental expenses (such as books or DVDs purchased during camp). Friday morning before skiing, we will have the final bill for you to sign (or you can pay by check at that time).

Footbed and alignment "pre-day":
If you are arriving early for camp and wish to have your indoor alignment session done prior to camp, we do have openings at our Dumont Ski Shop (any day, any time). Please call us or send us an e-mail by Jan. 14 if you wish to schedule an appointment. We’ll call you to confirm the time and place.

Meeting place in lodge:
The A-Basin base lodge is an old A-frame building. The first floor has seating and the cafeteria. We’ll meet on the 2nd floor (above the cafeteria level) at the back end of the building (closer to the slopes than to the road). We’ll also plan to eat lunch in this vicinity each day. Lockers and restrooms are located in the basement of the lodge.

Your coach:
Your coach is your central information contact - the “go-to” person for scheduling, questions, etc. Do you have any special desires that you'd like to cover during camp? Tell your coach early on the first day. Wondering what time to watch video? Ask your coach.

Video:
Video is performed on a weather-permitting basis. If it’s snowing hard, we will not video. You will watch video with your coach at lunch, once skiing is over.

Late Arrivals:
If you arrive late on the first day of camp, please go upstairs to the meeting place (2nd floor of lodge). Our camp helper, Greg, will be waiting for you. We have paperwork that you must sign before joining a group. Greg will have lift tickets if you need them. He will bring you outside and get you hooked up with the coaches.

Super Blue #2 Weather Watch:

From Joel Gratz at OpenSnow.com:

"Across the west, three storms will likely bring snow to areas along and north of a line from Tahoe to Utah to Colorado from January 24th through the end of the month. Keep checking OpenSnow.com for updates as this snowier storm track returns for the end of January."

Here's to hoping that we're actually going to have some real off-piste conditions to practice in!

Well it doesn't look like we're going to get quite the same snow totals as the Southern CO mountains, but here's the latest from opensnow.com:

"Storm #3 moves in late Sunday night and will last through Tuesday. The best accumulations will fall in the southern San Juans on Monday, and then the cold front will get snow going for central and northern areas (like Aspen and I-70) late Monday afternoon or more likely Monday night into Tuesday morning. Again, I think Monday will be a powder day in the southern San Juans, and Tuesday could be a very nice day in central and northern Colorado.

Yesterday's post talked about how Storm #3 was forecast differently by all the models, and while the American GFS model would be more favorable for snow across all of Colorado, I was thinking the European model (and a few others) would turn out to be more accurate in splitting the storm. I'm happy to report that it looks like the American GFS model is going to be the more accurate forecast (say it: "USA! USA! USA!"). While there are still some differences in the models (even within the various American models), it looks like the storm is going to stick together which is good for us.

There could be an additional few inches from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday as weak storms brush northern Colorado, but my confidence is low with this forecast. Stay tuned..."
