shell and sole alignment.

Postby john heath » Fri Dec 30, 2005 2:18 pm

there appear to be some boots on the market now with a shell that is not aligned to the sole, allowing more of a duck-toed stance. theoretically this would assist a knock-kneed skier, or at least reduce the degree of shims required. i recall there was a boot by atomic out last season with hinging of the shell too.
has anyone given any of these boots a go yet?

I talked with a rep at the ski show who sold Fischer boots. They have the foot slightly turned out (meaning that they are slightly rotated externally, ala herringbone) as they say it's a more natural position for the foot and allows better inversion. I tried a pair on and they were comfortable but I couldn't really feel a difference in the stance. Hard without skis on. I don't know if anyone out there has tried them yet or not. I think this is only their second year out.
