Boot Backpack

Postby skiman123321 » Wed Nov 23, 2005 6:43 am

I am looking for a backpack that will carry my boots and helmet, but have been unable to find one that will hold both. Does anyone have any suggestions for a suitable backpack? Thank you.

I use a bag from Transpack. I believe that they make three models. They are very nicely designed an there is room for a lot more than your boots and a helmet.

I belive that the last one called the Edge is on the small side, but it will defintely still fit your boots and a helmet.

Darn you guts are awesome....thanks from me too!
I've been searching for something like that to keep my shoulder from getting pulled out of whack when I'm schlepping gear from the car.

This is now item one on my x-mas list!!!! :D

I own a Transpack, and for my traveling, I have purchased a High Serria model that is just about the same thing. Works really well.

Hi,
I just got the Transpack TRV. It is exactly what I wanted. There is space for the boots on the sides, and the center section easily holds a helmet. It could almost hold two. There's a pocket on the back/top of the inner center section where the helmet goes and then the top flap also has a pocket. If you need more space, the sides where the boots go have a thin slip pocket each where the stripe is on the side. Lots of space, looks like strong zippers, and you can stow the straps inside a special pouch. I'm sure this will last a long time. My rugged old Demetre (remember Demetre wool ski sweaters?) bag from the seventies has given up with the zippers breaking. 30 years of use is hard to beat.
So if you are looking for a good bag, try one of these.
I know this sounds like a commercial, but it's so much better organized than many of the other bags I looked at.

yea, I actually got one with Technica logo on it that is exactly the same design. Very well might be OEM. I like it. The absolutely only thing I don't like is that the flap to the center section on mine is only really held closed by velcro... its fine most of the time, but if I ever try to take this on a plane and for some reason they say it won't fit and has to be checked in, I will be queezy..

but anyway, its perfect sized for two boots, helmet, goggles, gloves and a few other odds and ends..and still room to spare. I looked at a bunch of boot bags at the local shop and this one really stood out..

Hey JBotti, I just want to clarify, does your bag have a zipper to seal the center section or just velcro? If yours has a zipper I may take back this technia "similar" bag and get one like yours.

Mine has a clasp. It seals fine and I have checked it many times with no problems (always on the way back from a ski trip!!). JB.

two questions. One, was it too big to carry on the plane? (forcing you to check it in_?? and what exactly do you mean when you say a "clasp" that holds the center section closed? What is a clasp?

The clasp is a three pronged piece like on a back pack that connects the shoulder straps in front. Does that make sense? Think of the clasp on a fanny pack as well.

No, the mid sized and the small sized Transpack both fit in the overhead compartment of commercial jets (the largest size may be a problem, I have the mid sized). The only reason I have ever checked mine is beause it weighs alot with the boots and on the way back from ski trips I often check it. Obviouly it is a cardinal sin to check your boots on the way to skiing. Some people would never check boots on the way back either because if they are lost all the hard work to fit them and grind them is down the drain. I have been willing to take that risk in exchange for less weight to carry on the plane home. Let's hope it doesn't come back to bite me some day!!

Yea got you...the clasp is like a typical buckle on backpacks and such from Northface. Sounds great. I'm going to get the mid sized one today at REI..they have one in stock. thanks for your info...glad to hear its no problem carrying on the plane.
