What are you skiing?

Postby Max_501 » Thu Feb 22, 2018 9:07 am

Here's my current recreational quiver which should last for a few seasons.

Pre Amphibio Elan SLX 170cm
Blossom White Out 176cm
15-16 generation of the Head Monster 88 177cm
Head RnR 180cm

I could manage with just the SLX and RnR but there are times the SLX is too narrow and the RnR is too wide and I like having options because the PNW snow can be all over the map.

I do have fatter skis but they are for wet heavy snow on very deep days (more than 2 feet) and haven't been used in years.

I have a brand new (skied 2-3 times... maybe 20 runs total) 170cm TT800. PM me if you're interested.

Not a typical PMTS quiver, and not a single ski I would recommend for a skier who is learning PMTS (except maybe the Nobile SL):

Fischer RC4 WC SL Medium 165
Fischer RC4 WC SL Stiff 165
Fischer RC4 WC GS Master 191
Fischer RC4 WC SL Stiff 165
Fischer RC4 WC RC Pro 185
Fischer RC4 WC RC Pro 175
Fischer RC4 WC SL Medium 165
Fischer RC4 WC SL Stiff 165
Fischer RC4 WC GS Master Stiff 188
Fischer MTN 95 186
Fischer MTN 95 178
Head Monster 98 184
Blossom White Out 176
Blossom White Out 182
Blossom Wind Shear 180
Blossom Snoras 180
Blossom White Out 176
Nobile SL 165
ZAG Z-One 184
Elan SLX WC 165
Fischer RC4 WC SL Medium 165
Fischer Progressor 9+ 175
Head GTO 200
Head GTO 180
Fischer RC4 WC SL Stiff 165
Nordica Hellcat 186

Elan SLX 170 hard days
Dynastar SpeedZone 12ti 174 every day do anything
Stockli Rotor 76 169 Bumps and corn.
Head RnR 180 almost never.

My list is cleaner than Heluva's

2015-16 Head i.SuperShape Speed 163

For a NE skier who rarely skis anything deeper than boot-top, doesn't race above local NASTAR and is still learning PMTS movements, this is a great one ski quiver. It rewards good movements, slices ice, romps in the bumps and dances in anything up to 10-12" of CO powder.

Edit: these are tuned 0.75/3 but Toddw's tune (below) of 0.5/4 is tempting. We get alot of hard snow.

Being on the east coast, I ski narrower skis tuned 0.5/4. Boots are raptor b2 w/ 3 screws in back plate to keep them stiff in warm conditions.

daily use: i.SL 165 (2015-16, last pre-graphene model)

rock skis: classic red kers supershape 170

deep slush only: i.m78 171

Elan SLX 170cm - not amphibio
Movement Jam 173cm - my everyday ski
K2 Hardside 180cm - pre rocker - not used often

I hire when I ski overseas, and still have not found anything as versatile as my Jams which seem to suit me.

Elan SLX 170
Head ISL (non RD) 170
Head SS i.Speed 170
Stockli Laser SX 170
Blossom White Out 176
Head Monster 88 177
Head RNR 180

I have some serious overlap in my slalom carvers. Generally its one of them and I seem to go through phases. Presently I have been loving the SLX and the Stockli but they are all great skis.

Recently went to the Head B2 boot (with Pro Tongue liners). Wow, awesome. Wish I could have figured out how to get in and out of them sooner.
