Head i.Supershape Magnum

Postby sym95734 » Fri Aug 07, 2015 6:23 am

Hi,

I am investigating a good, easy ski to learn the PMTS movements, I found a good deal on a 2015 Head i.Supershape Magnum 163cm with the PRD 14 binding.

I am 5'9", 146 lbs.

Any opinions on the above skis? I searched the forum but I can't find a clear indicator if the magnum is a good PMTS skis or not.

Thanks!!

The HH-recommended i.SS Speed would be better. A narrow ski underfoot is beneficial for learning/practicing PMTS movements. The wider a ski's waist, the slower and more difficult it is to tip.

Also, Max501, Heluvaskier and some other PMTS experts have posted doubts about the Magnums. More than its slightly wider waist, there was something not quite right about its flex pattern.

On any good PMTS ski, 163cm would be fine for you. I'm 5'10", 135 lb and the i.SS Speed @ 163 is great for PMTS drills and skiing.

The magnum's suck. If you want a wider ski to ski the western mountains, check out the head Rev 80 Pro. Now discontinued but great deals are still out there. Herald put me on that ski two years ago and it rips the front side and kills the back bowls-- even at 80 mm underfoot. Great flex pattern and easy to tip on edge. However, everyone here will tell you a narrower ski is easier to tip and easier to learn PMTS.

Which is true, and thus my favorite skis in the world are my Stockli Laser SC's at 74 mm underfoot. Unbelievable ski at speed. Golds (one) and silvers (three) on the Vail Epic Racing (Nasstar) course...
