How do you dial in best length of ski to ski ?

Postby krazzy legs » Fri Apr 17, 2015 3:01 pm

It is pretty hard to demo different skis in different lengths for most skiers. What are the DNA markers that a ski is to long or short for its intended use? When skiing PMTS I find I can ski a shorter ski because I am skiing more in balance when I flex to release. Right now I am skiing a head SIL none Rd in a 150cm , 5ft 9 inches 180lbs & I just love the ski on the groomed & about up to 5 inches of powder. Never had any deeper to try ski. What I do not know if I would ski a longer length better because I would pretty much need to buy a new pair to know ? So how could a skier know with out spending money of buying to experiment ? Thanks

I think 150cm is a little too short of a ski for the description that you give of yourself. (and for practicing drills)

The main factors include:
- your weight
- your skill level
- the type (radius) of turns you want to make

Agree with speedcontrol. Assuming you have the skills to handle that ski reasonably and learn on it, not be overwhelmed by it, 150 is short for your weight.

I weigh just 130 and Diana debated between 170 and 163 for me... settled on 163. That was on the SS Speed, a slightly more versatile ski, but still, a 150 never entered her mind or mine.

A good length for developing PMTS skiers is right around the nose level.

Unless you are already an expert PMTS skier those lengths sound long.

Yes , for sure these lengths are not adequate for developing PMTS skills and practising drills. I just wanted to draw the skiers attention on this test and not to rely too much on such recommendations. I did it mostly for fun and oddly enough when I changed to a free ride option I received the Rally and the Titan as free ride suggestions from Head ??!!...
