Mya7 with or without ERA 3.0S any difference

Postby krazzy legs » Sat Apr 04, 2015 1:59 pm

I was looking @ a pair of Mya 7 2013 & a pair of Mya7 2014 the 2014 has ERA 3.0S, The 2013 does not mention having the ERA 3.0S. Both skis are the same length but the ski with ERA 3.0S is $220. more. Does the ERA 3.0S make the ski, ski very much better or is it just marketing ? Thanks

Thanks Max for link. You guys are simply the best. There can only be one best of anything & PMTS is the best. Until the technology of rearranging each atom in the human body is developed to make the human body the perfect ski machine I do not think PMTS movements can be improved. We have so much high tech around us that only a small amount of people are responsible for, which most do not understand. Perhaps this results in who am I to think & judge the ski instructors have to have it right, for how can so many be wrong with all this high tech around us ? I have been skiing for over 40 years & PMTS movements I find works better then anything else :)

I'd recommend calling Head. It's true the 2012-13 Head catalog doesn't label the Mya 7 as "ERA 3.0", but does use that term for other skis in the Mya line. However, it costs companies a lot of money to significantly change production methods, so there's a good chance the 2013 and 2014 skis have the same rocker profile and use of Intellifibers, and that Head decided, purely for marketing reasons, to add the "ERA 3.0" label to the Mya 7 in 2014. [OTOH, the Head engineers sometimes make source material substitutions between model years even in so-called identical skis, which can change their characteristics. So, I suppose to be sure, you'd want to determine if the Mya 7 that HH liked so much was a 2013 or 2014 model.] If they turn out to be the same, you'd want to focus on condition and days of use.

Unless you manage to get in touch with a Head engineer I don't see how one can get a definitive answer on the older product. Heck, the industry reps seem to have a tough time getting construction detail on new products - which is why we demo each season's offerings when we can.

Thanks, Theorist you worded it perfectly, Max is on to something regarding the demo of each ski, which is not easily done by most skiers. By any chance has anyone demoed both skis, Did Harold like the earlier model ?

I skied the year earlier model with Diana in February. It's actually a little bit stiffer than the following year version. I would say it will appeal to a smaller subset of skiers. I have not skied the year that Harald likes so much but Diana said it is noticeably less stiff than what we skied. Still a super nice ski.
