harb cert boot fitters

Postby Icanski » Sun Mar 08, 2015 12:41 pm

Hi,
Some of my PMTS clients are looking for a Harb boot fitter. Are there any East of the Rockies in US or Canada? I don't know of any in Canada, but thought there was one in Vermont somewhere....Are the Dodge people Harb cert?

The New Hampshire guy is wintering in warmer climes this year. Zuschauer in Pittsburgh is the only Eastern option for Harb-trained alignment work this season.

Icanski, I am in a similar situation but Im located in Ottawa. I contacted sportthoma in NH (5hour drive), looking for Glen who I tried contacting numerous times. They told me he hasn't worked out of there for several years but that there is a harb certified boot fitter in bethel, maine (5.5 hours away) who's name is Adam. I called them on his day off so ill try again tomorrow. Anyone heard of this boot fitter?

Haven't heard of Adam before. Get his full name when you talk to him. You can then ping ask.us@harbskisystems.com to confirm his Harb Alignment certification. If he checks out, suggest that he post his contact info here ... could generate some business for him.

I have spent a moderate amount of time with Diana doing boot work for myself and daughter this winter. If there is a HSS trained boot fitter in Maine, Diana and Walker were not aware of him being there. I too would be interested if "Adam" is HSS cert. If you find out that he is HSS cert., please let the rest of us know his contact #. That is how Glen Scannell used to work, and we, on the forum, will do the rest.

I had Glen Scannell set up some head raptor 130s for me a few years ago and they were great. I recently put a new bladder in and needed to have the boots tweaked but Glenn was not around so I worked with Adam. I do not believe he is as versed as Glenn in the Harb alignment system but works in a very similar fashion. I am pretty picky and he was fine for me and I would highly recommend him. Technically though, he would not be considered an HSS boot fitter. Barring a certified HSS boot fitter I think he would work.
He usually works a few days in the North Lincoln Sport Thoma store in NH.

I called the the sportthoma in bethel, maine and I reached Adams wife. Turns out he is not Harb certified. He never claimed to be, but for some reason the Sportthoma in NH thought he was. I have his personal number now so I think ill call him just to let him know about the huge demand for Harb alignment in the east. I think getting Harb certified would be a great business move.

Welch Village in Minnesota has a PMTS alignment shop with a PMTS- trained alignment specialist (Ryan Nordell). He does foot beds, indoor alignment assessment, on-snow alignment assessment and boot plating. He also does boot grinding and punching. Welch is the only PMTS licensed ski school and race program in the country. Here's the link for more info: http://www.welchvillage.com/pmts-direct ... system.cfm

Is boot fitting a science or an art ? For example if a skier was to get fitted with an alignment by a Harb certified boot fitter, Then went to Harold to buy or have a boot fitted would the same fitting & alignment be done & would they both have the skier in the same ski boot if they were buying boots or would alignment be slightly different ? @ some point I want to get aligned & fitted & it would be cheaper to go to Welch then Colorado. Have Dodge boots would that make a difference since not many carbon boot are around so might have less experience working with carbon ?

It's both. Alignment more science than art, boot-fitting perhaps more art than science. You will get a solid set up at either place. The amount of boot inventory and the number of models in stock might be the only factor.
Balance: Essential in skiing and in life!

Thanks, John

Good to know Harolds skill/ability for alignment can be passed on to others so more skiers can get aligned properly
