Sidewall wear @ tips how to stop ?

Postby krazzy legs » Wed Jan 07, 2015 11:08 am

Should the edges @ the tip of the ski be filed so they are not as sharp to help prevent sidewall wear ? I have had skis where the sidewall @ the tips of the skis have worn then the bases & edges are wider then the rest of the ski & if one ski rubes against the other in the tip area it will push the edge & base away from the ski. As the sidewall gets thinner & thinner the pushing force will eventually delaminate the base & or edge from the ski. I have a pair of head isl skis just put helicopter tape on tips not sure if this will work & maybe I should have filled the edges down a little but how much of the tip should the edges be filled to prevent wear but not effect performance ?hanks

I haven't seen this happen. I sharpen my skis past the forward contact point and a little into the shovel, and maintain my edges religiously.

Maybe figure out why the tips of your skis are smacking together so much? This sounds like an unusual amount of wear.
