Why is it that so many skiers are on wide skis, that don't turn and never even realize they are twisting and skidding, yet on a ski like a TT 80, which is such an easy ski to ski on; they complain that it's a bad ski. Hard to figure out, how about some video of you skiing skis you don't like, that PMTS experts like, and then we will be able to tell you why yo don't like them?

Maybe a contributing factor is binding position? I find the factory binding position on all my Head skis too aft. I've played around with both, 1) ball of foot over center of the ski running surface; 2) boot mid sole mark over the narrowest section of ski width. For me, I prefer around 2-3 cm fore of the factory mark. Another factor maybe the tune. The ski is like a toothpick and I like it with a 0.5 deg base bevel which brings out its quickness edge to edge.
Skiing: falling down the mountain with style.

Why is there so much talk about a Ski that Head hasn't made in 2 years anyway. This is why I rarely even look at the Gear Forum, it's like the Epic Ski forum.

Harald, video is a great idea as a prereq for posting ski reviews. Readers should know if the reviewer has mastered the PMTS movements needed to extract ski performance.

I just have to listen to what people say about skis and I can tell you about 80% of their skiing traits. Anyone that can bend a ski liked a shape close to the TT80, which is basically a Mya 7 shape.

I have a friend who went to her first camp this year. She's looking for a pmts friendly ski. She's very light weight and skis at Squaw a lot where it's a long carry from the parking lot, so she wants something lightweight. She's tried some supershapes but neither they nor the Mya 7s are very light. Any other ideas?

Light skis suck, most skiers only notice the weight when they have to carry them, she needs to find a gentleman to carry her skis. Seriously, light skis are made of junk and they bounce around on anything but packed power. They become uncontrollable on ice, hard snow or anything that is not perfect grooming. Which really narrows down the days and number of runs in a day they are worth skiing on, unless you are skiing at Yellowstone club. You can find many light skis for women, K2 are specialists at women's light skis. They last about two weeks and then they go dead. Just be prepared and know that you were warned.

If you get to Squaw early enough it's not that long a carry because you can park close. Actually this year, with limited snow you can park close even later in the morning.

I may have found some NOS Head STX for her. Should work well. Not sure if they pass the lightness test but...

1. No one actually said they didn't like the icontt did they? I think there was some discussion about their durability or going dead too soon. FWIW, for those that like the IconTT, check out another unfortunately discontinued model: The Hart Phoenix. VERY SIMILAR SKI: 66mm waist, modest sidecut, tapered tail, very even, smooth flex. Good on hardpack and moguls. If you are ebay or craigslist shopping for a ski like the IconTT, keep the Phoenix in mind.

2. Back to the actually thread…I am surprised there isn't a greater buzz about the Supershape Rally on this forum. After seeing HA's review and finally borrowing an acquaintance's for 5-6 runs on firm groomers, I'd think this would be at the top of the list for many around here. Why isn't it? Is it a good ski? Or, do folks regard it highly but just haven' talked about it much?

Anyone know anything about the Mya 5??

Rex, I just got a pair of Rallys. I've only got a couple of hours on them so far so not making any judgements yet.

Same ski everybody else has been discussing for the past 3 pages: Head Icon TT80 a.k.a. Head Icon TT800.

3cm forward on a TT80? Something isn't right with that. Post some video.

Please read before you post. Mac said he didn't care for the TT80. Hard to see how a 15M radius ski that is significantly stiffer is VERY SIMILAR to the TT80.

It's too wide to be a true replacement for the SS or TT80.
