Icon TT 80 length?

Postby marsound » Wed Mar 16, 2011 1:49 pm

Me: 5' 11", 170 lbs, advanced/advancing (getting more consistent with high-c engagement on steeper blacks) skier.

My current carving/pmts practice ski is a Fischer Progressor 8 in a 170. I'd like to get something a little narrower with a tighter radius (the Progressor is a dual radius 12/16, so a 14m average; not sure if it translates like that).

The Icon in a 170 is pretty close in radius (13.4) to my Fischers, so I'm thinking of getting the Icon in a 164 (12.6 radius).

I'm concerned that I'll give up versatility with the shorter length (I'd like to sell my Fischers and have only one narrower ski), but I know that the 12m or so radius is a good one for practicing PMTS.

Thoughts?

I have had several models of prior Supershpaes. currently use an Icon tt80 in a 170 cm. I stand 5'10". Weight about 180. definately go for the 170 cm. On the Supershape you might think shorter, but on the Icon I'd definately go with the 170 cm. I belive that is also the length Harald uses ( he weighs less and skill level - well , what can I say...)

Thanks, seskelson. Very helpful.

170 sounds right, which was my initial thought, but I wonder if I'll notice a difference in turn radius/turning between a 170 tt80 and my progressor 8's, since there is less than a meter difference...

(And is there even a rating for Harald's skill level?)
