Head 2008-2009 ski line

The SuperShape line appears to be unchanged.

How about a Chip Monster 78?

I've heard interesting things about the Mojo 94.

iXRC line cut back to 300, 600, 1100.

Xenon line changed to even numbers & readable graphics.

My question...I want more float in deep snow than I'm getting with my Xenon 7.0...124, 73, 108 mm @ 170 cm. Will the great Monster 78...124, 78, 110 mm @ 171 cm, 14.6 m radius, give me the float I want, maybe 178 cm for me (200#), or the Mojo 94...132, 94, 119 mm @ 180 cm, 19.5m radius??? In addition to float in deep snow, I want good turning on the moguls into and out of the powder runs.

I think you should try the iM88. The iM78 won't gain you much float and the Mojo 94 is not a very nimble ski even for its size. The 88 is big enough to give you much better float than your Xenons and they are surprisingly agile. I find it to be pretty decent in the bumps as well. If you really enjoy the bright, crisp, and poppy feel of your Xenons you may try to demo the Fischer Watea 84 as well. Good luck!

Stay away from the im78 Chip, too stiff, it's only a groomer, and ice ski. If you already have the SS you don't need it. If you want a one trick pony that's way too stiff, get an iM88. If you want a versitle ski that skis all terrain and groomers with fun, get the im 78 regular. The 170cm is easy, the 177cm is a real performer, but you have to stand on it.

You have the 180cm Mojo 94, right? I wonder if the 173cm would be significantly different?

The im 78 in 170cm doesn't give me much more float than my Xenons, and the 177cm sounds more demanding than I want. I'll keep looking for the fat, soft, sweet turning ski with lots of float that still has decent control on the bumps into and out of the powder runs.

Ken, I doubt you''ll get the extra float you are looking for in anything under 100 at the waist.

I only bought the Xenons 'cuz Diana told me to. They are FUN. I'd sure like to have skis with exactly that silky Xenon feel in soft snow, but wider for the float to keep me off the base (I'm 6', 200#, don't like to ski fast).

If I get 100mm skis, I'll have to ski with a wider stance. Any suggestions on which skis to get, Max? I don't want Coombas (not in the bumps into or out of a powder run) or Pontoons. Not Katana, probably not Mantra, maybe Watea 94?, how about a 178cm Mythic Rider--but only 88mm-- or 174cm Snoop Daddies, maybe some 173cm Sugar Daddies @ 99mm???

Mike, when you can be successful with a one item menu, I'll stick with one pair of skis. (Mike is a restaurateur.) And, I probably was on snow 50 days this past season. I'd get tired of the same old skis....

Hey Ken,

I was just joking with you and saying hello! I've seen many many people succesful with 1 pair of skis, but never a restaurant with one item...I only wish! It would be easy!

I am certainly no expert but here is what I think.

In my limited experience, there is no one ski that is going to be really good at everything. Maybe good to pretty good when put into many differents now conditions, terrain and depending on the individual skier.

I have 2 pair, the SS which I love and is GREAT in many conditions and pretty good on others, like 8 inches of powder, when skied correctly.

My second pair is the iM78 in a 171length which I first demoed on my own in 18 inches of powder at Jackson Hole. Like Harald says, most of the wider skis are for big mountain straight liners (which is why he called the 88s a "One trick pony")....which you admittedly don't like to do! They lack the flex that will allow you to bend the ski at slow speeds (they will make you work hard!), which is I think what you do like about the Xenons, and obviously would be harder to tip due to the width.

I don't have enough experience nor have tried a ski over 78, so I cannot recommend one that will be soft/or flexible enough for what you want it to be able to do. I can tell you the 78 does flex nicely when you do end up on the groomers, did not kill me in bumps, and gave me all the float I needed in the deep snow.

Good luck in your search! Let me know if you find that ski!

Hope you are doing well.

Next year Head has a Zenon version of a Monster called the iM 76. People love it, I have not skied it.
