Riding the offpiste thread

Postby oggy » Thu Mar 21, 2013 5:32 am

Hi all,

I thought I'd try and profit some off the interest on Max's off-piste thread. Here's a video:

This is a groomed piste (I think) covered with more than 1m of fresh, slightly chopped-up powder. Essentially I'm not getting any pop out of the skis here. After two or three such runs I'm totally spent (well, you can see what happens in the second half of the video). Here I'm on a 21m radius ski with 105mm underfoot. I can generate pop in powder from my SL skis, but they are generally a pain to ski there. So, any clues? Flexing seems alright, and the speed seems appropriate (well in the first half of the run, at least). Tipping? I am occasionally showing an A-frame at the transitions as my skis diverge. CA is definitely suspect, though it actually looks better on video than I thought (for once!).
