Stance foot note

Postby -- SCSA » Thu Jan 15, 2004 8:17 am

Hi all,

So I'm watching a PBS documentary on Stein Ericksen (sp?). First of all, you gotta give it up for Stein. Yeah, he was good looking and all that crap. But the guy was way early in skiing, maybe even put Alpine skiing on the map. Billy Kidd says "Stein did more for Alpine skiing than anyone." Kidd goes on to say, "In the 50's and early 60's, we (American ski racers) all looked up to Stein." In listening to Stein talk, he's no phoney. The guy really loves skiing.

Anyway.

2 trademarks of Stein are the reverse shoulder (counter balance) and standing on the outside (stance) foot to make a turn. Far as I could tell from documentary, Stein brought both to skiing.

So anyone that's wondering about the importance of the counter, and the stance foot, look back to Stein. PMTS teaches the counter and the stance foot.

On a side note, I'm also impressed with Maria and Willie Bogner. They brought color to skiing.

Finally, in watching the documentary here's what I took away from it.

"The more things change, the more they remain the same."

Oops! I'm way past forum time.
Catcha later,
