Using energy, flexing, I finally get it

Postby mark_l » Fri Mar 08, 2019 10:26 am

I finally managed to get the energy I built in one turn to take me into the next.

Once I understood, it did need a bit of a mental leap of faith to not just let it take me up the ‘hump’ to a transition dead zone but just right over it and into the next turn. It took me a bit to realise that yes, it is controllable and the float does not necessarily mean I'm not in full control of things. The predicting-your-flexing-to-control-the-energy is taking a bit of practice, bit of a new (cool) way of skiing.

Also interesting to note when starting off free skiing, racers I see often go straight, then once the speed is right, they half turn out one way bouncing out into their first full one. Most people seem to set off on a traverse angle to the slope then turn (and then usually: low energy, un-dynamic skiing!)
