Variable Snow

Postby sujo » Thu Dec 31, 2015 3:16 pm

I was on a fairly steep slope with firm snow and was working on quick phantom move turns. During one turn I hit some soft, sticky snow must have caught an edge and took a nasty endo crash - total grocery dump (sorry no video). I think I wasn't flexing the inside ski enough or didn't have enough CB to get the uphill ski out of the way. Is a phantom move useful in softer sticky snow if the essentials are properly applied?

Yes.

Not sure what you meant by "not flexing the inside ski enough". That is not part of the PM.

How deep was the soft sticky snow?

The softer snow was 3-5 inches deep in a smaller spot that I didn't see until too late due to flat light I think. I would normally do more of a two footed release in that situation if I had seen it coming.

In 3 to 5 inches I'm probably lifting often but once it gets to 8" I've moved to more of a two footed release.
