6th essential is it being able to self analyze while skiing, weather or not your using PMTS, how your movements will effect your skiing for the terrain & snow conditions that you are skiing. When an external cue indicates your doing it right or doing it wrong for desired out come being able to adjust on the fly I think is a good essential to have.

6th essential is it experience ?

There is no sixth essential.
Everything can be understood in five.

The sixth essential is "foot to foot pressuring."

I will try again:
The sixth essential is coaching (including self-coaching, in other words, looking at video to assess whether movements are correct)

This 2006 post may be the first time Harald publicly mentioned there are six Essentials.

Harald wrote:I am putting the finishing touches on my new book and I just sent the Flexing/bending and extending Chapter to the publisher. So this topic is fresh in my mind. There are literally thousands of frames and explanations in this book. Although there are Six Essentials, which I point out in the book, they are broken down into their smallest components; ultimately all six Essentials combine to create Expert Skiing movements.
.......

This, from that same thread, indicates the five we know of are "major" Essentials, implying the sixth is a minor Essential. It also indicates that "strong inside hand/arm" goes under counteracting, so NSPP would seem to fall under counteracting as well.

Harald wrote:Very good Max, here is how I fit them into the categories:

Flex/Extend
Extend Outside Leg
Retract (Flex) Inside Leg

Counter Actiing Movements
Strong Inside Hand/Arm (oops thats seven)

Tipping

Foot pullback, this fits into:
Fore/aft balance

So you have identified four out of the five major Essentials. There is one more major Essential. Does anyone feel that there should be another Essential, not mentioned here?

And this, from geoffda in 2013, explicitly says the sixth Essential is holding your poles properly (rather than, e.g., pole swing), which krazzy legs and deicreo discussed/alluded to above.

geoffda wrote: Achieve mastery of tipping, flexion/extension, fore-aft movements, counterbalance, counteracting, and learn how to hold your poles properly and you can ski anything. Broken down into it's pieces, elite skiing just isn't that difficult to understand, nor is it beyond the reach of the average human. If you just focus on the six Essentials, pretty much anybody who is dedicated and focused enough to do the work can develop themselves into the best skier they can be. No other system approaches skiing in this way, which is why no other system is as successful.
