Foot pull back

Postby pryan » Tue Feb 22, 2005 5:10 pm

I would appreciate some help from the "Regulars" on foot pull back. This appears to be an important PMTS technique and I want to make sure that I understand it correctly. When you say foot pull back- I assume you mean fore-aft pull back and not lateral (side-to-side) pull back. Also, does the pull back happen in conjunction with freefoot LTE tipping--or only after that tipping has stopped?
Thanks for your help

You are correct, pulling back refers to aft (even though pulling the free foot closer to the stance foot is also movement valid for many skiers- this is called "pulling in").
Works great if combined with tipping at the same time.
At the beginning, I found it hard to combine these two movements, but the combination is learnable.
Tipping should never stop! :) :wink:

The movement is very clearly visible on Harald?s DVD/tape which accompanies the second book.
Harald's recent post on fore-aft movement is great reading on this subject as well.

Also you may want to practice pulling both feet back at the same time;
pulling them early (during transition flexing) as well as in the upper C;
and keeping the free foot pulled back.
