Another Heluva [cold] Weekend

Postby skifastDDS » Fri Feb 20, 2015 10:28 am

I skied with Heluva over Presidents' Day weekend at Holimont. Saturday was like a western powder day; Sunday and Monday brought -15 degree [yes, F] temperatures, but the snow was amazing. Heluva was able to get my alignment right at long last, and that enabled me to move forward with developing my skiing. This year has proven yet again how dangerous relying on feelings is when trying to improve one's skiing and change things. I was fairly shocked when I saw video.

I think it was the first time I've ever actually been forward on a ski, in 24 years of skiing. The PMTS movements are coming together, and I'm relearning how to ski yet again, as it feels like a whole different sport than the pushy skiing that I'm working to eliminate. It's been an exciting process.

This turn wasn't so bad.

I don't think Greg (SkiFastDDS, not me) has posted the video anywhere yet, but I'm sure he will get a run or two up eventually. He is skiing very well... slowed things down a lot. Still lots of free foot management and tipping work to do, but great improvement from a dedicated student.

His alignment is also improved... There is still room for improvement, but it is working better for now (until he can get to see the HSS crew).

Here's another one of my favorite screen shots.

Here we go:

Lots of work to be done with tipping, free foot management, pullback, and flex to engage.

I was gun shy about going further because he's skiing Aggressors, but I agree that he should go out further (we actually discussed it).

Here's a combined version with music and some slo-mo:

Greg,
Your skiing is looking better since we last skied in Killington. All of us need to find a way to ski together next winter maybe at Killington again. Your lucky to get to ski with Greg R he is a great skier.

Nice work Greg! I assume Heluva has told you what you need to work on, so I'll just say that there are lots of good things happening in your skiing. Keep up the progress.

Thanks Geoff. Heluva did give me several things to focus on, and I've understood more after studying the slow motion footage. I'll be in Colorado from March 9-15, I hope to make some turns with the PMTS crew.
