Just for fun. Short turn series

Postby SkierSynergy » Wed Mar 26, 2014 10:46 pm

I was playing around at Skibowl a few days ago. Mostly ran brushies on a steep black run Then it got warm and softer so I did a bunch of short turn runs. Shot this series for fun. Enjoy. :)

Just have to ask - where was your camera man? That's a really nice overhead shot of your skiing.

AWESOME turns...Jay.

That's what I remember seeing the first-time I was at Hood! You were carving better than all the racers on the hill. Then I saw you in the parking lot on a pair of Carvers essentially making the same tight arcs! Thus... began my journey into PMTS!

Your arms/hands NSPP are particularly noticeable during these turns. Very calm. Please post more video...! :D

Yeah, it does look like an over head. It is actually shot straight from the bottom of a long run, and zoomed in a lot with an HD camera. Because the shooting spot is back and the run is steep, it has a bit of an overhead feel.

I have been doing a lot of different stuff this year. Randonee, tele every Tuesday; and I have been out some on Petr Kakes' speed skis. He used those to set the world speed record back when it was around 130 mph. Now days, they are actually illegel at arcticman. Now, you have to use generally available equipment in the race world for arcticman. They are 240cm with a 70+ radius and they have a big groove down the center. Generally, you have to step turn to make them change direction (and man they are heavy). However they also have a 4 deg bottom bevel so you can also slide them to stop. I want to get comfortable enough to take some runs toward the 100 mph mark.

No doubt... and extremely challenging to demo this volume of them at this level.

I can watch that over and over and have been!!!!

The arc starts high but the hook up after the fall line is very cool. Skis are finishing virtually perpendicular to the fall line but done so tightly & smoothly!!

Something to aspire to during my upcoming 10 days in Big Sky. Just have to get the 26hr journey done first next Friday.

Tell me Jay, what movements are you particularly focussing on during a run of those short turns?
