Free Foot Management

My understanding that free foot should be held close to the stance foot and pulled back. Should the legs be touching doing turns or should their be a slight space between them?

During a super phantom the boots should be touching, but because of the aggressive tipping of the inside foot the legs won't. During a perfect high angled carved arc the outside knee may be touching the inside boot (or very close to it). During the transition the feet and legs usually won't be touching but they should be narrow.
