Where is the list of PMTS reference points?

Postby h.harb » Sat Jan 18, 2014 1:14 pm

Does or can anyone find the list that I compiled of all the PMTS reference points, up until now. I remember posting it on the forum, but can't find it.

Yes, thanks I know where the individual post are for the reference points, or check points or even some were named, Check list.
What I am looking for is the one post that has a list, or the complete list, not the posts themselves. That's the post I can't find on the forum.

Harald. I know you want just the list. Unfortunately I could not find it. I would love to see it. In the meantime I searched your blog as well as here and came up with this list which is useful to me and might be useful to others.

1) Check Point 1. Lift Inside PMTS, Essentials. : http://www.pmts.org/pmtsforum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3995
1) PMTS Check Point number 1 Is the skier balanced on the outside ski? All the way through the turn? Can you hold this inside ski like this, all the way through the arc?: http://harbskisysems.blogspot.com/2013/03/pmts-check-point-number-1.html

2) Check point 2. Equal leg flex and leg shafts parallel. : http://www.pmts.org/pmtsforum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3996

3) Intelligent Image Analysis, or IIA Check Point 3 Does the old outside ski lead the tipping at the high "C" of the new arc? : http://www.pmts.org/pmtsforum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3997&p=41427&hilit=check+points#p41429

4) Check list 4, no swing pole use! No swing pole use of the outside pole planting or tapping hand. : http://www.pmts.org/pmtsforum/viewtopic.php%20f=1&t=3998&p=40842&hilit=+check+list#p40842

5) Number 5 PMTS check, Stance width. : http://www.pmts.org/pmtsforum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3999&p=40844&hilit=check+5#p40844

6) PMTS Check list Number 6 Strong inside arm, pole tip moving forward? : http://www.pmts.org/pmtsforum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4005&p=40961&hilit=+check+list#p40961
6) PMTS Check List number 6 The inside arm and ski pole tip should be moving forward through the arc, this helps to hold the counter acting and stop rotation of the torso. : http://harbskisysems.blogspot.com/2013/03/pmts-check-list.html

7) PMTS Check points, number 7, Knee to Boot. : http://harbskisysems.blogspot.com/2013/03/pmts-point-check-number-7.html

8 PMTS Check Point, number 8 Phantom Move. : http://harbskisysems.blogspot.com/2013/03/pmts-check-point-phantom-move.html

9) PMTS Check number 9, Counter Balanced and Counter Acted. : http://harbskisysems.blogspot.com/2013/03/stacked-counter-balanced-and-counter.html

10) Check list 10 Little Toe Edge mastery! : http://harbskisysems.blogspot.com/2013/03/little-toe-edge-mastery.html

12) Check point 12 outside leg long. : http://www.pmts.org/pmtsforum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4016&p=41062&hilit=check+5#p41062

Must I do all the heavy lifting around here?

A demonstration photo for every one of the PMTS checks

h.harb wrote:I'm working on a photo for everyone of these PMTS checks.

Is the stance width appropriate for the size of the skier?
Does the release start by flexing the outside leg?
Is there a transfer to the LTE?
Does LTE tipping lead engagement to the new turn?
Is there a point in the transition where both legs are flexed equally?
Are the feet pulled back at transition?
Is the inside foot held back throughout the turn?
Is there enough CB and CA and is the timing right?
Is the pelvis included in the CB/CA movement Inside hip higher?
Strong inside arm, pole tip moving forward?
Is the inside leg flexing and tipping as the turn progresses?
Does the outside leg extend naturally (no pushing) as the turn progresses?
Does LTE tipping of the inside foot continue throughout the turn?
Does the weight shift go to the LTE during transition?
Is the skier balanced over the outside ski?
Is there a pole touch and how is the movement and timing?
Is the pole touch a no swing?
Alignment - watch the skis and knees carefully - does anything look like it needs go be tipped in or out?

I have had this list of questions on my computer for months with the intention of committing it to memory. The recent interest in the list by Harald got my attention and I have been playing with making a PDF of the Check Points with the photos Harald has chosen. I like the idea of having them in a form that could be easily referenced on the hill and hope to come up with a good solution for that. In the process of building the PDF, I started noticing that Harald's order of numbered check points is different from the list. That got me thinking about arranging the questions in a sequence that reflects the progression of the turn and the order in which an observer might be checking each point. I am wondering if the order as it stands is intentionally chosen or just happens to be that way.

The reason I was looking for the list on the forum was because, I am organizing and compiling the list and photos for a video project. We are going to film the "Check Points" ( 2 weeks from today) and describe the MA to achieve understanding and develop movements based on them. The target audience is coaches, parents and racers. With this list, we are filming racers who will be learning and doing these exercises and drills, both in Free Skiing and Gates. We will also document the overall ski technique changes made with the skiers in this process. The idea of course is to see the benefits achieved by skiers when they have all the check points built into their skiing.

The idea is for the participants during the filming (if they don't have the abilities) to learn and perform or improve, with every one of these abilities on the list. There was no, and was no order or priority, when I initially set up this list. I started posting them on my blog and then brought some of them to the Forum and that is why the numbers don't match.

I evolved it from World Cup skiing and skiers. As you can see with each slide their is a WC skier perfuming the Check point perfectly. As I was watching WC skiers I decided to use my own skiing photos as well, in the Check Lists" to demonstrate that a skier who is not a world cup competitor, can perform the Check List and really put their skiing in order by achieving everything on the list. To me these are all parts of what we do in the "Essentials" and everyone and everything on this check list has been discussed and described in my books and videos. This video and the check list help to consolidate much of what is necessary to evolve, improve and strengthen in your skiing.

Since I am finding that USSA has little or no help to offer for coaches in this direction, that is for the understanding of developing skiers, and the process in which solid technique and skiing back ground is produced; I'm hoping this new video and out takes, will have some obvious alternatives for race coaching and race families to fall back on.

The project will be two fold, one a complete video to watch and study, and then a series with each "Check Point" produced separately for downloads and references to check while skiing on a mobile device.

Thank you Monsterman!!!!

The importance of Checkpoint 1 cannot be understated. The other checkpoints can fall like dominoes.

Pulling a max501... Blast from the past...Was this photo montage ever done? Worthwhile back then..today as well.

Would be great to be able to download the montage to my iPhone and reference it on the mountain...

HH this would be a big help , especially with younger developing racers who get so much confusing/contradicting info, depending on which coach they are working with on a given day. A visual checklist of the most important building blocks that lead to a PMTS skiing would be great.

I love the photo montage from Essentials, it illustrates all the movements clearly.
