Head Boots

Postby Max » Wed Jan 12, 2005 9:38 pm

I was surprised by the soft flex of the RS80. I'm wondering, is it too soft? Looking at the flex numbers it looks likes the S12 is stiffer and then the RS100 is the stiffest. Of course I haven't had the luck of finding the S12 or RS100 in stock just yet.

On another note, my wife is also looking at new boots. She's an advanced intermediate and doing well with PMTS movements. Would the Head Edge series be ok for her, or should we stick with S and RS series?

Let us know what sizes you are looking for, we still have a few S12 and RS100 models. The 80 is a softer flex and it would really depend on who is going to be skiing on it--height weight and ability level--whether it is too soft or not. Many of our customers have been really happy with it. I'm not that familiar with the edge series, but if it were comparable to the S and RS series boots, we'd probably sell it. Don't be afraid to look for the Freeride series or the race boots from last year. The M103 and N97 are still great boots and you may have luck finding them on the net.

Joseph, what are you guys suggesting for boot shell fit, 1/2 inch or 1 inch? I find that at 1/2 inch its so tight that I don't really get any foot motion inside the boot. Of course that might change after the liner packs out a bit.

It really depends totally on the situation. In general, an inch is too much. A half inch is usally ok provided that you are working with a bootfitter that knows his/her stuff. Make sure that you have a bootfitter that is willing to expand the shell and grind. Mostly they will be specialty race shops. However, be careful in there. Don't let them sell you a footbed or cant you. There are a lot of race shops out there that are still canting people backwards. (Thanks Warren) Your best bet is to come to us or our affiliates. There is shop in CA and in NH that do alignment our way. The only time I would consider a 1 inch shell fit would be for a person with a very high volume foot who has a good fit around the ankle in the larger shell size.

Joseph,

Would you please explain what you mean by this. Where do you think that people should be canted? What type of footbed is appropiate for pmts?

Thanks,
Doug

Hello, I'm on the RS 100. According to my boot techie (he's on the S12) The S12 is 5% softer than the RS 100,that's straight from Head. I am 5'6" 145lbs, and I could not imagine skiing on anything softer than the RS 100. After 10 trips on it, it is breaking in nicely. I had the shell customized, and got a footbed etc, and they are the most comfortable boots I've ever been in for that level of performance. They are almost identical to the S12, only 5% stiffer. Hope that answer's your question. I ordered my boots in October, and they were sold out then, however, since my wonderful boot techie and I wear the exact same size, he allowed me to steal his!! What a guy!!!

Thanks for the response. I decided to go with the RS100 and I just love it. What a difference a real boot makes! I opted for 1/2". I had to have some grinding done in the toe box and elsewhere, but they are feeling pretty good these days. Instant transfer of motion to the skis which is a great feeling.
