First day on Carvers

Tips on making wheels last. First, buy the good wheels, they last longer, (we have to order more from the manufacturer, we are almost out) less changes and better traction. Rotate the wheels often, front to back, side to side. Try to find a better centered position on the Carvers, if you are wearing the rears only/mostly, you are probably putting more pressure there.

Yes. I am now back in WV and my carving spot. My son also has a pair. He loves it. Carving is cool to him (flex to release and LTE are the focus) and so is jumping into switch and doing untold other street tricks carried over from his inline skate park experience. To tell the truth he freaks me out! We have alot of fun with all this.

Jay's web site is a great resource for Harb Carver information.

This is a great resource. I am working my way through the progressions/exercises, no switch or pole flips for me.

great move!
I won't be doing that too soon though.
I forgot about this thread and posted my first experiences in the carvers thread in the Gear section.
I'm making GS turns now, and working on getting a tighter turn so I feel a bit more in control.
They are great fun and really really good for technique! I find I really have to be balanced and thinking about what I'm doing right now to get them to work. The step turns and such are going very well, and they are much easier to just skate in than I thought they'd be. It's a bit cooler here now so I feel better going out with out my feet burning up.

I'm not sure about the toe bumpers. I may take them off unless there's a really good reason to leave them on. They make me more nervous than just the skating.
I'm really enjoying them and they are much closer to real skiing than any inline skates are. What a great training tool, Harald and Diana, my helmet's off to you. Great invention.
I showed them to a sports medicine specialist who skis today and he is intrigued. He is the doctor for the Maple Leafs. He's also interested in PMTS so I'll see if he takes me up on my offer to show him.
Perhaps I can get some skiers up here on the skates and we'll start a team.
in any case, I'll let you know how I progress. I'm on the Pro model.
now, we've had a foot of fresh asphalt fall last night and I want first tracks! :D

Harald and Jay, how do we make those really tight radius turns you guys demo all the time?

Hi guys,
I'm wondering how tightly my boots should be especially up top. Since it's warmer and I'm not having to push the leverage to the skis, should they be fairly loose?
I'll also try the loosening up, too. I'd like to get some tighter turns for when I hit a steeper hill.
thanks,
John

Can anyone (besides the coaches) make turns this tight yet?

Great turns! I also notice that they're skiing against traffic

Today I was out for awhile on my little carving street/piste  and was working on getting closer to those videos. I realized I was skating back up the hill faster than I was coming down, so I pumped up the speed a bit and nice things started to happen. It clicked, and soon felt much like it did on the snow. I was able to tighten up the turns more, but since I'm on a narrow street with cars on one side, I have about a lane and a bit more to use before I start clipping off rear view mirrors. It's behind a police station, so I have to behave.
I can get nice slaloms going but I'm not able to get them to come all the way across the hill or that close to it before transition. I'll keep at it and see if I can't tighten it up. I'm on the Pros, and I'm wondering how much moving the front axle back helps. I'm using a 303 boot and the front xle is a bit ahead of the front of the boot.
I'll see if I can find a parking lot where I've got more space to try, but I'm aiming to get nice arcs like that video, and in one lane, I don't want the cops to give me a ticket for improper passing.
but I'm having a lot of fun and they are a great training tool.
regards,
John
