SCSA (and Harald and all of you):
A while back you posted what I interpreted as a "humorous post" about what is a Real Skier. I posted a humorous reply, but I have a more serious one as well. A "real skier" is someone who loves the sport (or activity, I don't know) with an almost religious passion. It's someone who wants everyone to ski better, someone who is willing almost to proselytize technique to help others get better. If you can make a living at it as well like HH, then so much the better. But I doubt that is the main motivation of you or HH.
Unfortunately, people are seldom going to receive a message that "there is a better way than what you know" very well. But truth has a way of eventually taking root. You may never know where it takes root (unless you get a post like ??John Mason??). But I don't think a Real Skier is in it for the reward or the acceptance of others. The knowledge that you are spreading truth, helping all of us who used to be Terminal Intermediates, and learning to ski better yourself should be enough. Remember that the greatest grass roots conversion in history was Christianity, and all of the apostles were killed (sorry, been to see the Passion).
However, to a large degree you seem to me to be the "heart and soul" of this forum. Understand that the people that react vigorously to the posts aren't the only ones reading. them There is information that is getting distributed and there are probably ears that are truly hearing that you will never know about.
Having said all of that, ease up a little bit. It isn't about proving whether PMTS is better by whether you ski better than someone else. It's only about providing your honest opinion. The results of offering that opinion are beyond your control.
One of the hard lessons I encountered in Graduate School was a new concept (back in those days) called "egoless programming." Although simple, it's difficult. The thrust is to separate "what you do" from "who you are". If in a program review someone criticizes your code, don't mistake that as a criticism of you. And a JimR corollary => if all they can find to criticize is you then the code must be pretty good.
In summary, I wanted to celebrate my one year anniversary in Peter's group by saying thank you for all you have contributed to the forum and to my understanding over the past year.
PS. I've always wondered about SCSA, but I actually saw it on a resume this week. Sun Certified System Administrator??
