Austrian System

Postby Harald » Wed Oct 26, 2005 10:49 pm

I agree with you guys about the Austrian system (and most other major Alpine nations), their ski school teaching systems are TTS and the coaching is an elimination process, not a genius of coaching ability. Canada under Ken Read is making progress.

My father is an Austrian fully certified instructor, I was born in Austrian, I know the systems and have many friends who are coaches and instructors there. I know the heads of the sports science departments personally, at both the University of Innsbruck and Saltsburg; they are excellent professors and scholars of skiing. They are far ahead of the instructors and coaches in the understanding of skiing.

Their jobs are to research and study skiing and present findings. It is not their job to develop new teaching or coaching systems. After the research is done, it is up to the federations and instructor organizations to study the findings and develop new ways to teach or coach. I have been a member and contributor to this organization (International Congress of Skiing and Science) since 1999.

We are still waiting for developments from the instructor organizations

Yeah , "wherefore art thou CSCF video "

What a shame , the major resort schools in Austria just seem to want numbers on the slopes , quality control costs money I guess and so many people just don't realize what they are missing .

Jclayton - note

I corrected the reference for the videos that whygimf posted - it had a mis-spelling that made the link point to a spam site. It works now.
